Quick Start Guide Part 1
Welcome to the Weight Wizard Quick Start Guide. This guide will give you a quick overview of how to use the Weight Wizard software. If you need more detailed information on any topic you can use the in-line help in the software. Most of the windows in Weight Wizard have a help button in the top right corner; clicking on this button will open a window with detailed help on that section. Also, almost every button and field in Weight Wizard has a tool-tip that will give information on what it is for when you place your mouse cursor over it.
After reading this guide you should also read the Overview Guide, which gives you an overview of how to use the software to reach your weight loss goals. There are also online video tutorials that show you examples of how to use the software to complete different tasks.
The Weight Wizard software is divided into eight different sections: the Profile, Calendar, Journal, Planner, Recipes, Grocery List, Graphs and Food Setup.
The Profile Layout is where you keep track of user profiles in Weight Wizard.
The Profile Layout
In this section you can create a new profile and look at summary information of profiles. It's also the default Layout that opens when you start Weight Wizard. The Profile Layout gives you a snapshot of your progress by showing you different graphs and statistics. The Summary button in the top left corner opens a new window with a detailed summary sheet that can be easily printed. The Settings button allows you to change different settings, such as your daily calorie budget or weight and measurement reminders. The weight graph, at the top right, shows your weight loss over time. Placing the mouse cursor over any of the nodes will give more information about the weighing. The bar graph, underneath the weight graph, shows your nutrition ratios for the last 7 days, not including the current day. The pie chart shows the percentage of fat, carbohydrates and protein that you have consumed in the last 7 days, not including the current day.
To start a new profile, click on the New button in the top right corner.
|General Information||Total Daily Energy Expenditure|
The first window is the General Information window. This window asks some basic questions about you, such as your name, age and current weight. Just make sure you fill in the fields correctly and then click on the Next button. The next window is where you select your Total Daily Energy Expenditure. This is the amount of calories that you burn during a normal day, not including any additional exercises. For most people, this is simply what you do at work. For example, someone who sits in an office all day would be considered Sedentary, a nurse who is active all day would be considered Moderate and a construction worker would be considered Very Active. When you have selected the lifestyle that best matches your own, click on the Next button to go to the next window.
|Goal Weight, Goal Date and Calorie Budget||Nutrition Ratio|
The next window asks for your goal weight and calculates your calorie budget. In step 1, just select your goal weight. In step 2, you can select a specific amount of weight that you want to lose per week or a specific date that you want to lose the weight by. Once you have made your selections, click on the Calculate my Calorie Budget button to finish step 3. (Reducing your TDEE by more than 1,000 calories or setting your Calorie Budget to less than 1,000 calories is not recommended. You should contact your health care provider if you want to reduce your caloric intake by this much.) Once you have finished calculating your Calorie Budget, click the Next button to go to the Nutrition Ratio window. In this window you can select the ratio of Fat, Carbohydrates and Protein in your diet. It is recommended that you use the default value of Well Balanced, which is the healthiest ratio. If you want a different ratio, you can select one of the predefined ratios from the drop down list or click on the Custom button to input your own. The ratios that you select here will affect the nutritional information graphs in the program. If you are not sure what to enter here, just leave it on Well Balanced and click on the Next button.
|Weight and Measurement Settings||Verify and Create Profile|
In the Weight and Measurement Settings window you can select when to be reminded to take weighings and measurements. You can select to be reminded every so many days or specific days of the week or not at all. The reminders that you set here will show up in your profile in the reminders field and also in the calendar. The Reminders field in the Profile layout will tell you if you have a weighing or measurement scheduled for the current day or if you've missed one in the past. Once you have made your selections, click on the Next button to go to the final section. This section just allows you to verify the values and settings from the previous sections. If you need to make changes you can click on the Previous button to go back and change any settings or fields from the previous sections. Once you have verified that everything is correct, click on the Create Profile button to create the new profile. The Profile Setup window will close and your newly created profile will now be displayed in the Profile Layout. There won't be much to view yet in the Profile until you have entered a few days worth of information in your Journal.
